Comments: 8th generation model introduced to Australia in November 2000 as a 4 door sedan or 5 door hatch. 2 door coupe and 3 door hatch available in other markets. Aust models sold with a choice of two 1.7 L engines: GLi and Vi with the "D17Z1" and the VTi hatch with the higher spec "D17A2" engine with variable valve timing. Australian model upgrades in February 2002 (MY02), January 2003 (MY03) and October 2003 (MY04) with a Hybrid petrol-electric sedan launched in February 2004 with a 1.3 L "LDA1" DOHC 4 cylinder engine and CVT transmission.
